The Kathmandu Valley covers a 360 square kilometers in area and at an altitude of 1336 meters above sea level, Kathmandu is an exotic and fascinating showcase, rich in culture, art and traditions. The capital, which is the political, commercial and cultural seat of the country covers 24 Kilometers from east to west and 19 km from north to south is. It is surrounded by green hills with terraced fields, dotted by the roofs with tile red houses. It has many ethnic groups including the Newar which gave it its specific cultural character. A legend tells that the valley was once under water until the day the Bodhisattva Manjushri planted his sword in the middle of the lake. The valley dried up and the first inhabitants settled.

KATHMANDU DURBAR SQUARE
Durbar, which means palace, is where the kings were once crowned and where they ruled from. Kathmandu has its Durbar Square at its heart; here charm of old town blends well with traditional architecture in a rich cultural backdrop. The entire square was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
The massive complex consists of three main squares, which is home to palaces, temples, and courtyard. South of Basantapur square is a former Royal elephant stable, which today has souvenir stalls and leads to Freak Street (the lane still lives in the former glory of being the ultimate Hippie destination during the Flower Power era).
The temple of Living Goddess, Kumari, is also on the southern end. Kumari is a young Shakya girl from Newar community, chosen through an ancient and mystical selection to become the human incarnation of Hindu Goddess, Taleju. If you are lucky, you might get to get a glimpse of Kumari peeking out of an elaborately carved wooden window.
The main Durbar Square is the most affected area by the 2015 earthquake. Three main temples of the area, Kasthamandap, Narayan temple, Trilokya Mohan, and Krishna Temple has been completely destroyed, while other have been partially damaged. On the Northeast side, the square consists of Hanuman Dhoka, the main entrance to the old royal palace. The Taleju Bhawani’s temple, the oldest of all the temples is situated in this area. Even though the old royal palace has been partially damaged, restoration process is going on. The Square is slowly making progress to yet again revive its old mystic and glory of being a living museum with finest traditional architectures in the world.

SWAYAMBHUNATH- Also Known as Monkey Temple.
Perched on top of a conical hill is a white dome with glittering golden spire is visible from all sides of the valley for many miles. This most ancient and enigmatic of all the holy shrines in Kathmandu Valley, Swayambhunath Stupa, is also known as the Monkey Temple. According to the historical records, the stupa is over 2,500 years old. The name of Swoyambhunath has been derived from Sanskrit word, Swayam (self), making Swoyambhunath the ‘Self-Created One’. The surrounding of the stupa consists a variety of shrines and temples, some dating back to the Licchavi period. The stupa has Buddha's eyes and eyebrows painted on each side and nose is made out as the number one in Devanagari script. The main stupa can be reached from two access points; a long steep stairway with 365 steps (leading directly to the main platform), and a car road leading to a longer way from the southwest entrance.
This stupa too has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Sites list. This place offers an excellent view of the Valley. Though the temples around the stupa had some minor destruction and one of the temples beside the stupa collapsed during the 2016 earthquake, the process of reconstruction is ongoing.

BOUDHANATH
On the outskirt of Kathmandu lies one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal. This ancient stupa of Boudhanath, on top of a massive mandala, probably is one of the largest in the world.
There are over 50 monasteries around it and it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It is built on the ages old trade route from Tibet to enter the Kathmandu Valley. Under the wise eyes of Buddha gazing out from the gilded central tower seems to be watching over thousands of pilgrims gather daily to make a kora (ritual circumnavigation) of the dome.
In the evening the whole place lights up with butter lamps and the wafting smell of sage gives a calming effect. The stupa is surrounded by building and monasteries. The plaza surrounding the stupa is open for people of all religion. Tibetan monks, elderly, along with other devotees can be seen spinning prayer wheels, chanting mantras, or just strolling in silence around the monument. The Stupa was damaged during the earthquake but has already been reconstructed and opens for tourists from November 2016.

PASHUPATINATH
Pashupatinath is more than just a religious destination. It is a combination of religion, art, and culture. It offers peace and devotion. This national treasure was designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1979.

Just 5 km south of Kathmandu is Patan, the city of artistry, which is one of the three Royal cities in the Valley. Connoisseurs of fine arts and architecture will be delighted with the city’s offering of various Buddhist and Hindu temples and over 1000 monuments boasting of the finest wood and stone carvings. The city is known for its rich tradition of arts and handicrafts such as metal statues and ornate architecture.
The square is mélange of old Royal palace, artistic courtyards, and pagoda temples. The former Royal palace complex has been turned into a museum. The square is dotted with some enchanting work of artistry in the form of temples, though the earthquake destroyed some of the centuries-old temples, of all three cities of the valley, Patan was first to rise above the rubble and open for the tourists. There are three main courtyards in the palace: Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk, and Keshav Narayan Chowk. The Sundari Chowk is well known for a masterpiece of stone architecture, the Royal bath called Tushahity. Other main attractions are Krishna Temple, Bhimsen Temple and Golden Temple. Though Patan Durbar Square has faced destruction due to the earthquake, a full-fledged reconstruction process is going on and one can find traditional artisans busy with the process at a Chowk within the Museum.

Singing bowls are renowned for their healing and relaxing qualities and were invented by ancient Tibetan and Nepali Buddhist monks for physical, mental and spiritual rejuvenation. Singing bowls are also called Himalayan bowls, a source of positive energy in the form of sound vibrations. When the rims of these bowls are struck, it produces a long, reverberating sound wave that soothes the senses. The singing tunes are a series of sound waves produced by them. Bhaktapur’s Durbar Square is the gem not only of Bhaktapur, but also of the entire nation. The most fascinating structure here are the world-renowned 55 Window palace, golden Gate, Big Bell, Siddhi Laxmi Temple, Shiva Temple. Taumadhi Square has Nyatapola Temple dates back to 1702 AD. The colossal five storied edifice is the country’s tallest pagoda temple.

Visit National Memorial Chorten- the building of this landmark was originally envisaged by Bhutan’s third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who wanted to erect a monument to world peace and prosperity. Completed in 1974 after his untimely death, it is both a memorial to the Late King (“the father of modern Bhutan”), and a monument to peace. (Closes Daily Nov-Feb at 4pm & Mar-Oct at 5pm)
Visit National Institute for Zorig Chusum – watch the students of the National Institute of Zorig Chosum (Arts and Crafts) as they learn the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan.
Visit Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan –a state of the art textile Museum showcasing an exemplary display of the art of weaving and textiles. Currently the Museum also has on display the bridal dress and the hand crafted shoes worn by Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema during the royal wedding in 2011.
Visit Zilukha Nunnery – Built more than half a century ago, Zilukha Nunnery is also known as Druthob Goemba. Housing around 60 nuns in its premises, a visit to the site energizes the soul because of its peaceful surroundings, which lures one's mind to never leave the site. From here, the spectacular view of Tashichho Dzong can be captured in a camera to make for a beautiful photo album.
Also known as the Thangthong Dewachen Nunnery, the Zilukha Nunnery is the biggest nunnery in Bhutan.
Visit Tashichho Dzong: The “fortress of the glorious religion” was initially erected in 1641 and rebuilt by King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck in the 1960s. Tashichho Dzong houses some ministries, His Majesty’s secretariat, and the central monk body. It is open to visitors during the Thimphu Tsechu (held in autumn) and while the monk body is resident in its winter quarters at Punakha Dzong. Weekend Market: Most of the Thimphu’s population and many valley dwellers converge on the bustling weekend market, held down by the river. A wide range of foodstuffs and local arts and crafts are sold at the market, which runs from Friday afternoon to Sunday. A visit to the market provides great photo opportunities, as well as the chance to mingle with local people and perhaps buy souvenirs. (Open Fri-Sun)

This beautiful valley encapsulates a rich culture, scenic beauty and hundreds of myths and legends.It is home to many of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries and the country’s only airport. Mt. Jhomolhari (7,300m) reigns in white glory at the northern end of the valley, its glacial waters plunging through deep gorges to form the Pa Chu (Paro River). The Paro valley is one of the kingdom’s most fertile, producing the bulk of Bhutan’s famous red rice from its terraced fields.

After early breakfast, visit Kichu Lhakhang one of the oldest temples in the country. The temple is one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by the Tibetan king, Songtsen Gampo to subdue a demoness in the 7th century. The building of this temple marks the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan.
Then proceed to visit the National Museum. The National Museum of Bhutan is the pride of the country. Flaunting art and traditions, it has six floors, each of them narrating a unique tale from the past. You can see paintings, art pieces, animal masks and many more facets of the rich culture. Constructed in 1649 as a watchtower against Tibetan soldiers, it was converted to the National Museum in 1968, preserving the rich history of Bhutan within its walls ever since. (Closed on Govt. Holidays)
In the afternoon, visit a farmhouse and join the family for a cooking demonstration and tasting. Enjoy a delicious lunch of fresh yak-butter tea, and home brewed liquor - fiery arra or sweet sinchang. Help them make ema datsi (cheese chili), and pancakes with red rice, served along with hot chili curries. After lunch help the family with their daily chores such as taking care of the livestock and crops. Over 85% of Bhutanese still practice subsistence farming and this affords an authentic encounter with the Bhutanese traditional way of life.
Later also visit Rinpung Dzong – One of the finest examples of architecture, the Rinpung Dzong, also known as the Paro Dzong, has a very spiritual environment. Beautifully lit-up at night, the dzong has many illustrations portraying the life of Buddha. A hike to the top of the fortress welcomes you with the spectacular view of nearby valleys. The dzong also holds the colorful annual festival Paro Tshechu which makes it even more impressive than it already is.
On the way back also watch a game of archery at the archery grounds in Paro – A great way of viewing Bhutanese culture in action. (Subject to availability)
Overnight at Paro
In the Morning go for Taktsang Hike also called as Tiger’s Nest. Every walking guest find this trip little challenging because of the elevation gain and the dramatic walks through the gorge.
We start the day with a 30 minutes’ drive to the starting point of Taktsang hike. Start the uphill walk slowly so that you can get use to with the altitude, which is 600-700 meters above the valley floor. In an hour’s time we should get to the cafeteria, which is like 3 kms. Have refreshment here and enjoy a scenic hike for another 3 kms uphill till the temple. We walk uphill till for half the journey and then fairly easy till the last view point. From here we will walk down the gorge and up till the temple. Visit the temple and come back to the cafeteria for lunch. This will take around 2-3 hours and if you think you need a horse ride up the hill, please let your guide know well in advance. We would have done an average of 12kms for all the up and down walks.
In the evening, enjoy 01 hour yoga session in Paro.

Visit Agrasen ki Baoli (ancient water reservoir)- Also referred to as Agar Sain Ki Baoli or Ugrasen ki Baoli, this attraction is a historical monument situated on the Halley Road in New Delhi. A mosaic of different assortment of stones and rocks, Agrasen ki Baoli is an ancient water reservoir which rises from the depths of the earth to stand atop 103 stone steps.
Visit Jama Masjid: Known as central mosque of the old Delhi at the time of Shah Jahan. He completed this mosque in the year 1656 and made it the biggest and best known mosque all over in India.
Visit Chandni Chowk – ‘the Moonlight Square – One of the oldest and busiest markets in Old Delhi. It is an important historical site renowned for the availability of every kind of goods as well as food. It was constructed in the 17th-century by the Mughal ruler of India Shah Jahan. Chandni Chowk is a perpetually busy area filled with narrow, congested lanes, each specializing in a different product such as spices, jewelry, hardware, and stationery. This is the bustling hub of commerce in the old city. Enjoy a Cycle Rickshaw Ride which takes you through the narrow streets of the Chandni Chowk.
Visit Lakshmi Narayan Temple: Alternatively known as the Birla Mandir, the sacred place is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his consort Goddess Lakshmi. Temples of other Hindu Gods and Goddesses are present within the complex.
Drive Past India Gate: The India Gate (originally the All India War Memorial) stands as a memorial to 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army, who died in between 1914–1921 during the First World War. Visit National War Memorial: The National War Memorial is a monument built by the Government of India near India Gate, New Delhi, to honor the Indian Armed Forces.

Visit Qutub Minar: - Qutub Minar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has survived the ravages of time impressively. Built in the 13th century, the magnificent tower stands in the capital, Delhi. Also see the Iron Pillar, situated inside the Qutub Complex, stands majestically with a height of 24 feet. It is placed in front of the Quwwatul Mosque in Qutub Complex. Iron pillar is made up of 6 tons of 98% wrought iron, which is also attributed to be one of the reasons for why this pillar hasn’t rusted.

Early morning visit Taj Mahal during Sunrise: One of the seven wonders or symbol of love. The Taj Mahal stands for the Crown of Palaces in the Persian language. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Constructed entirely out of white marble in the 17th century, it is among the finest edifices of Mughal architecture. As fuel based vehicles are not permitted in the vicinity of Taj Mahal, you will head to Taj Mahal gate by a Battery operated Bus. (Friday Closed).
After breakfast, visit Agra Fort (An Epitome of the Mughal Dynasty) – An architectural masterpiece, The Red Fort of Agra or Agra Fort was built by Emperor Akbar in 1573. One of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the fort was once the erstwhile residence of the Mughals until the year 1638. Within the premises of the fort lie the most exquisite structures of the Mughals like the Pearl Mosque, Diwan-i I Khas, Diwan-I-am, Moti Masjid and Jahangir Mahal. Each and every one of these edifices has remarkable handiwork and ornamentation that make this place a delight for every history and architecture lover.
Visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb: Also known as “Baby Taj”, it is a tomb built with white marble in the typical Islamic style architecture. It was built by the Mughal Empress Noor Jahan in the memory of her father Itmad-Ud-Daulah. It happens to be one of the must visit monuments of Agra.
Late afternoon go for Mughal Heritage Kachhpura Village walk with high tea. A narrow bridle path through agriculture fields near Mehtab Bagh takes you into the ancient village of Kachhpura and Humayun’s Mosque. The walk through Kachhpura starts with explaining the paintings (sanji art) on the walls done by community girls under the youth program. Humayun’s Mosque is another monument that is situated inside the village. This is a strange peculiar kind of mosque ever built by Mughals. It has one deep narrow, great central ricer or compartment entered by a high arch and domed in the center with one recess in its weak wall. At each side of this central compartment the building is lower and broken up into the smaller chambers. One can also visit the village school situated near the courtyard. Walk ends in Mehtab Bagh from where you will have the opportunity to watch the Taj Mahal during sunset.

Built by one of the most trusted generals of Akbar, Maharaja Man Singh I in the year 1592, Amer Fort served as the main residence of the Rajput Rulers. Visit Jantar Mantar – largest stone astronomical observatory in the world. Owing to its rich cultural, heritage and scientific value, Jantar Mantar in Jaipur has also been featured on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. Jantar Mantar was built by Raja Sawai Jai Singh in 1727-33 and is built out of stone and brass. The main objective of building this vast observatory was to study and gather information about space and time.
Visit to City Palace and Museum– Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh during the years 1729 to 1732, the vast complex of the palace occupied one-seventh of the walled city. In fact, it was once the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The palace is divided into a series of courtyards, buildings and gardens including the Chandra Mahal and the Mubarak Mahal. The museum showcases various unique handcrafted products and other things that belong to the royal heritage of the City Palace.
Photo Stop Hawa Mahal – built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year 1799. Hawa Mahal derives its name from its unique structure, which is a mesh of small windows that allowed cool wind to enter the palace and hence kept the palace comfortable during the hot summer months. The main reason behind the palace's construction was to allow the women of the royal house to observe the festivities on the streets whilst being unseen from the outside as was the custom of the land.

Note: Please note that to reach the top of Sigiriya Rock, there are nearly 1,200 stone steps up and then down. Anybody in reasonably good condition will be able to venture to the top of Sigiriya Rock and it's certainly worth the effort, however important to know these little details before embarking on this outing.

Polonnaruwa - is the 2nd capital of Sri Lanka. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries A.D, and is a UNESCO world heritage site.

The audience hall, the lotus bath, the Polonnaruwa statue (12th century) and the Parakrama Samudra tank (lake) built by king Parakramabahu the great. There are also ruins of famous places of worship such as the Shiva temple, the Lankatileka, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the Kiri Vihare Dagoba and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth. Horton Plains is 20 miles (32 km) from Nuwara Eliya via Ambewela and Pattipola, is the Horton Plains only 3160 hectares in extent. Known to Sri Lankans as Mahaeliya, it became Horton Plains after Sir Robert Horton, British Governor from 1831- 1837. Horton Plains became a Nature Reserve in 1969 and upgraded as a National Park in 1988 due to its unique watershed and bio-diversity values.
Its flora has high level of endemism. The hills are covered with diverse wet low evergreen forest with even large trees grown flattened to the ground on the higher windswept slopes. Horton Plains harbors 52 species of resident birds and 11 species of migrant birds. More than 2,000 to 3,000 Sambhur, Bear Monkey, Leopard, Barking Deer, Giant Squirrel, Fishing Cat, Wild Boar and Hares roam in the forests and grasslands but only seldom they could be seen other than the Sambhur in the evening and morning.
This is the only National Park where visitors could walk on their own in the designated tracks.
